The AI explosion isn’t accidental, it’s manufactured: Big tech CEOs spend billions on lobbyists, marketers, and advertisers to pitch tech products. And governments play ball, buying up the latest gadgets at enormous cost — without public hearings, public process, or a report back on results.
We shouldn’t have to scour a Philly lobbying report to find out that the company that invented and sells Tasers spent $75,000 lobbying the city. And now, they are aggressively marketing software that would AI-generate police reports, decreasing the accountability and transparency we need from our police.
We shouldn’t have to browse LinkedIn to find out that salesmen for Microsoft hosted city officials to push the company’s vision for AI in government.
How would you feel if an AI voice was on the other end of the phone when you were trying to access the services you need, instead of a real person?
When it’s our tax dollars being spent and our people being impacted, we need all the info and a voice in the process.
